The other day, my 4 year old daughter Lizzie noticed the big heart on the calendar and realized that Valentine’s Day is coming up. She is very excited and has talked about little else ever since. She has been busy making Valentine’s for friends and family and has been planning elaborate Valentine’s Day treats and sweets. Who am I to argue?
She found a picture of a cupcake with a hard sugar heart on top and was just desperate to make them. I did not have any sugar hearts handy, so we made these with heart cookies on top. You may be wondering why some of the hearts are yellow. Well, Grace’s favorite color is yellow, so Lizzie wanted to make these special for her.
For the cupcakes, I followed the Pioneer Woman’s Chocolate Cake recipe. This is the best chocolate cake I have ever tasted and is now my go to recipe. I cut the recipe in half, and that made 12 medium cupcakes. Instead of frosting, I topped them with whipped cream. Easy and delicious!
For the sugar cookies on top, remember the Nutella Halloween Cookies? I followed the same sugar cookie recipe but made heart shapes instead. Just before putting the dough in the fridge to cool, I divided the dough in half and mixed in the food coloring.
Happy Valentine’s Day. Hope you enjoy making these cupcakes for your Valentine as much as Lizzie and I did making them for ours.
Enjoy!

Hope you hve a great Valentine’s Day today. I’m actually going out to dinner with my husband for the first time in 10 years and HE organised it. Those cupcakes are looking grand. Loving your Cajun Porn series.
Sounds lovely! How was your dinner? Hope you had a great time.
How cute are these! Its a shame you can’t buy them online.
You’re a nice Mommy.
What are you planning for Easter?
Thanks, Isabel. Hot Cross Buns of course.
