My favorite band of all time is Cowboy Mouth. I love those guys! Back in my days at LSU, I spent many a night in some club screaming my head off, dancing my ass off and having the time of my life at a Cowboy Mouth show. Thankfully the planets aligned last Saturday night, and after the LSU game I went to check these guys out again 10 years on. All I can say is that they still have it, and so do I.
It was like I was 20 years old all over again. I danced! And I sang! And I screamed! And, I got down on the floor! And I jumped up in the air! And I “let it go, let it go, let it go, when the world keeps coming down on me, I let it go”! For a couple of hours at the Walk On’s in Baton Rouge I recaptured my youth, and it was fabulous. I have been on a high all week. Thank you Cowboy Mouth!
Cake Magazine once described a Cowboy Mouth show by saying “on a bad night they’ll tear the roof off the joint and on a good night, they’ll save your soul.” They are a bit like a gospel revival meets a punk rock band. And, it works. The drummer and lead singer Fred Leblanc thrives on audience participation. He encourages the audience to meet the people next to them just like in church, then totally rock out a “let it go”. And when you leave the show totally spent, sweat drenched and hoarse, it is always with a lighter load and a smile on your face.
For the uninitiated, here is some “Jenny Says” from back in the day. Enjoy!
