As I told y’all last week, I am getting a new kitchen. I thought I’d share some before pictures with you.
It’s hard to get a picture of the whole thing, but our kitchen is a U shape. The photo above is of one side. The servery above the sink is a real waste of space. It’s not big enough for a breakfast bar, so it mainly functions as a catch-all for junk. I cleaned off the mail, phones, toys, coloring books, … before taking this photo. I’m not sure where all the junk is going to land once the new kitchen goes in, but I do know that it will not be here.
Here’s the other side. Wow, that’s a lot of beige. Bland, bland, bland. You can see my feeble attempts to interject some color. I’m not going too wild here with the new kitchen, but it will be nice to have a color other than beige in the kitchen.
Now for the biggies. Here are the 2 things I complain about the most in my kitchen as it stands today.
First, look at that stove. It has 4 burners, but do you think I can fit 4 pots on it at the same time? Not a chance. If I’ve got a lot of different things cooking, I have to cook in shifts or fire up the side burner on the BBQ for that fourth pot instead. I can not wait to see the back of this piece of junk. By next weekend, I’ll be cooking on a big, shiny, brand new stove. Yay!
My second big complaint involves this corner.
The truth is that while my kitchen is not overly small, there is very little practical/useable counter space. This corner is it. So, if The Aussie and I are cooking together (which is something we both really enjoy), then we are constantly fighting for this corner. And, when I’m making cookies/cakes/muffins with the girls, we are all crammed in this corner fighting for access to the mixer as my only power point is also here. Just getting rid of the drain board on the sink would go a long way to adding more useable counter space. Of course, I’m planning to do a lot more than just ditching this silly old drain board, but you’ll have to wait for the after photos for the details.
Works starts today. Stay tuned!
