This time last week I was sitting in a room with 300 other bloggers at the Problogger Event in Melbourne. I remember feeling very nervous, but also excited all at the same time. Nervous because it was time for me to become an extrovert and find comfort in a room of 300 strangers and excited to meet so many other bloggers from a wide variety of backgrounds.
As many of my long time readers know, I lost my bloggy mojo around Christmas last year. It just wasn’t much fun for me any more and was taking too much time away from my family, so I took a step back. As a result, this blog has limped along for the last 1o months. At one point I even contemplated shutting the blog down, but I couldn’t bear to lose this link with my family and friends back home or part with 2 years worth of writing. And, truthfully, I just don’t feel “done” yet. So, I took myself off to the meet the experts in hopes of some inspiration.
Thank goodness I did, because I found so many things during those 2 days, only 1 of which was inspiration. I found motivation to keep blogging – “from little things big things grow“. I found the time to spend here in front of the computer blogging while prioritizing my online life to fit into my real life – “15 minutes per day“. I found out all about the business of blogging and how to turn a hobby into an income – “revenge is best served as an invoice“. And, I found exactly what I was looking for, INSPIRATION – “where the mind goes the energy flows“.
In addition to all that, I finally found my niche. I have always had a hard time explaining my blog to other bloggers (not to mention trying to explain Cajun to unsuspecting Aussies). It’s not quite a mommy blog, or a food blog, or a personal blog. Of course, all those things play a part, but they don’t quite describe the whole. Well, apparently I’m an expat blog. Duh! Finally a label that fits.
So, saddle up and get ready for some exciting times at A Cajun Down Under. I’ll still be doing the same type of content that you know and love, but there’s going to be a lot more of it.
Many thanks to Darren Rowse and his ProBlogger team, the wonderful and knowledgeable speakers, and all my new blogger friends for my renewed excitement about blogging. Sitting at the airport on Saturday night waiting for my flight, I tweeted this.
Yes, folks, I’ve got my mojo back!
