I DID IT!!! That’s right, I made a Krispy Kreme Burger!
These things are usually more fun when shared with someone else. However, The Aussie never could wipe the look of disgust off his face when I mentioned it. So, I decided to bring in reinforcements. Not just any reinforcements though, Super ones. The lovely Super Sarah from The Super Whites was as enamored with the idea of the Krispy Kreme Burger as I was and came over to share in the fun. Super Sarah is also a professional photographer, so enjoy these lovely images today. It’s back to my meager skills tomorrow.
The idea was to make a bacon cheeseburger but use a Krispy Kreme doughnut for the bun.
I made my usual hamburger patties seasoning the meat with some grilled onions, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, salt and pepper. No measuring required. Just a dash here and shake there, and you’re in business.
Then it was time to consider the bacon. Thick, limp Aussie bacon just was not going to do, but I didn’t think my homemade bacon was right for the job either. So, I picked up some pancetta – it’s round, it’s thin, and it cooks up crispy. Perfect!
The Aussie got into the act now and cooked everything up on the grill.
Then Super Sarah and I constructed our burgers.
My perfect burger has meat, cheese, bacon and mayo – lot’s of mayo. I prefer my salad on the side. But, even I have my limits, and I simply could not bring myself to spread mayo on a Krispy Kreme.
Super Sarah was a tad more adventurous and added lettuce, tomato, ketchup and a fried egg – it’s an Aussie thing. I dare say she might have even thrown a piece of beetroot on there if I had any.
After a toast to ChocolateSuze, we were ready to taste our Krispy Kreme burgers.
My goodness! That was amazingly good! I think I’ll have another bite!
The saltiness of the pancetta was perfectly balanced with the super sweet Krispy Kreme. Add in the flavors from the burger and cheese, and it was bliss. My only complaint was that I wished the doughnut had been warm.
I was really only in it for one bite. I just wanted to taste it. But, before I knew it I had eaten the whole damn burger. Thankfully, Super Sarah had the forethought to take a picture of her last bite.
I knew ChocolateSuze was onto a winner. The Krispy Kreme Burger is a hit! I would so eat this again. And, again.
Super Sarah as also written about our Krispy Kreme Burger adventure on her blog which you can read here.
So, would you eat a Krispy Kreme burger now? What is the weirdest thing you have eaten? Super Sarah and I are looking for ideas.
