It’s official. I’m the mother of a school kid.
My darling Lizzie had her first day of school last week, and I’m happy to report that we all survived. As you may remember, I was struggling to make this transition. However, writing about my struggles really helped me get all the tears out. Thanks goodness, as I was able to enjoy the first day with Lizzie who was so very excited.
We arrived at school, and Lizzie could not get to her classroom quick enough. Once she stored her ginormous school bag and found her desk, she looked up at The Aussie and I and said, “You can go now, Mommy”.
No chance for tears then, and we left her to it.
She says she had a great first day doing lots of craft and fun stuff. The only downside was that there was “too much sitting”, and she happily reports that recess is her favorite part of the day.
Did you have a child starting school this year? How are both of you handling the transition?
