About
Hi, my name is Christy. Welcome to A Cajun Down Under.
I’m a Louisiana native, born and raised in Baton Rouge. After graduating from LSU, I decided to explore the world beyond the Texas border. I landed a great job traveling the world performing software upgrades. This basically meant that I got to spend my time in enjoying room service in 5 star hotels while on an expense account and enjoying being a tourist in my off hours.
It was on a business trip to Sydney during the 2000 Olympics that I met The Aussie. A mere 10 months later we were married, and I traded in room service for house in the Sydney suburbs. That was 10 years ago now.
These days I’m a stay at home mom to my darling girls, 4 year old Lizzie and 3 year old Grace. I love my life in Australia, but I still get homesick for my family, friends, and some good Cajun food.

Love the website – nice work madam !! Will be checking in regularly – and definitely giving some of those recipes a go !! Keep up the good work .
Thanks, Busky. Nice to see you here.
Hi there,
I just came across your blog for the 1st time while surfing one of my favorite bloggers the Pioneer Woman. I am a Louisiana girl married to an Aussie from Sydney as well! We live in Alabama at the mo but will be taking my first visit to his hometown in March. Cannot wait!
I actually just started a blog a few weeks ago as well, but mine is focused on cooking and namely cajun food. But it’s funny how you call your husband “the Aussie” since I call mine “my Aussie” throughout my blog. ha.
Anyway just thought I’d say hi and also see if you wanted to share any of your thoughts on how you’ve transitioned from LA to Oz, as well as what it’s like to raise a family there, etc. Would love to hear some perspective because we may end up there someday! Who knows.
Thanks for your posts and I’ll keep tuning in to your blog to see what you’re getting into!

HAHA! I’m an Alabama guy who married an Aussie girl and live in Sydney. I also miss the Cajun/Creole food from many trip down to Louisiana;)
Hello! Great to find you here — a Cajun girlfriend shared your Spinach Madeleine link on my FB wall. Small world! I, too, grew up in and around BR, graduated from LSU and came to visit my sister & explore Oz. That was 20 years ago now!
We’re on opposite coasts (Perth) but it’s great to find your site. I always do Spinach Mad for special occasions but usually substitute pepper cheese (never could find jalapeno cheese) and have never tried the cracker topping — I’ve always just done bread crumbs but I think the coarser texture of crackers would be yummo.
Well, I’ll look forward to reading more heart-string-pulling tales from your side of Down Under (e.g. Tailgating Tiger Style, etc…). Yay!
Cheers, Dot.
Hi Dot, so nice to hear from you. I love meeting other Cajuns living Down Under. Do you get back to Louisiana much? Your comment made me crave some Spinach Madeline, and I’m making some for dinner tonight.
its was very nice meeting your family the other day at zea. hope to see y’all again before your vacation is over. merry christmas to you, your husband, your mom, and the girls. … and of course the dollies too lol
Merry Christmas to you too, Rachel. You really made my daughter’s day. She is still talking about it. I’m running late, but the post is up now. http://wp.me/pGlfW-Lc
Hello! Finding your blog has just made my Monday. I am a Cajun girl living in Melbourne. We often cook Cajun meals for our friends in family here. They love it; my girls favorite is gumbo. Looking forward to following your blog!
Welcome Abbi, so nice to “meet” other Cajuns in Australia. I am converting my Aussie family and friends to Cajun cooking too. Hope you enjoy my blog.
Not sure how is missed this blog. We are Baton Rouge natives been in AU for 4 years. Both my grandmas wrote tiger bait cookbook and we love to cook. We will have to meet soon!!
Hi John, I’ve been here for 10 years, and you are only the second person from Louisiana I’ve “met”. Funny, the first was just last week. Are you in Sydney? I’d love to meet up. What brings you down under?
I have found more and more Louisiana people in Sydney. Tuba Skinny (MSY Band) was in Hyde park playing and there were several Louisiana hats around. We have been here for 3 years with no plans to leave. We live in Milsons Point so yes to Sydney. We came over originally b/c we could, moved back to the states for a bit due to a long story, and always missed Sydney so we came back. We do need to meet up one day…not sure if you get to the city often but we are happy to explore. Maybe we can arrange something with Laurie and Nino which I understand you met the other day.
Glad to come across the blog of another ex-pat American food lover living down here. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, Erik. Glad you are enjoying my blog. Where are you from?
